Methods

The methods used were mainly from Theatre of the Oppressed developed by Augusto Boal, particularly image theatre, and forum theatre. There were both lectures and workshops and also some writing based on suitable literature.

In addition during the first year course the method of Collective Creation / Story Telling was used in studying students’ own conceptions and prejudices of different nationalities and cultures.

The students of the first year course actively used the e-learning platform HumakPro during the whole course. There were three different distant-learning video-lectures held during the first course. The first one from Norway introduced Boal´s theories, the second one from Spain dealt the interviewing techniques. In addition there was the third one taking look at the minority-majority issues by a visiting Belgian teacher. However, it was not officially part of this project, and therefore not in this handbook.

The later course involved one live lecture in English, which was broadcast simultaneously to Estonian, German and U.K. partners. The taped lectures from other partners as well as the videos presenting the work of other partners were looked through to give the necessary information both on the methods and on the different possibilities for the Community Art Event. This material can be found in this handbook.
