Introduction
In Germany, teachers are facing in their groups a high percentage of children and young adults with migrant backgrounds. In many cases teachers are not adequately prepared to cope with the conflicts caused by this situation. The adult and further education centre Zentrum für Erwachsenenbildung Stephansstift (ZEB) in Hanover decided to participate in the Minerva Project in order to gain knowledge in providing teachers with problem-solving skills based on cultural production. We discovered that the students of social pedagogy at the Diakonie-Kolleg Hanover would make the best target group for the first, experimental training program implemented in the Minerva Project. So, we arranged a partnership with them.
35% of the students of Diakonie-Kolleg have migrant backgrounds, and their teachers are constantly facing the problems mentioned above. Triggered by the Minerva Project, which provided the impulse and the necessary resources, they decided to address this fact for the first time explicitly in course content.
